M.N.S Swamy, research professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has received the 2023 Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Saskatchewan.

The award recognizes an alumnus for an outstanding lifetime of accomplishments and contributions in any area, such as academics, athletics, arts, business, not-for-profit, public or private sector. It is the highest honour presented by the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association.

An Honorary Concordia Research Chair in Signal Processing at Concordia, Swamy came to Canada from India in 1959 to pursue his master’s and PhD degrees in electrical engineering at the University of Saskatchewan.

He later joined Concordia University, where he served as founding chair of the university’s Department of Electrical Engineering from 1970 to 1977, then as dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (now Gina Cody School) from 1977 to 1993.

Most recently, he established the Dean M.N.S Swamy Engineering Entrance Scholarship Endowment for Indigenous Students to support an annual scholarship for first-year undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering at the Gina Cody School.

Swamy officially accepted the award on October 19, 2023 in Saskatoon, Canada.
