SCPA Announces its 2018 Panel Series
January 30, 2018 – March 13 2018, 6:00 pm – 8:00pm

Each year, as part of the SCPA 301 course, the students of the School of Community and Public Affairs organize series of events touching on current policy debates. This year’s topics are especially connected with the important transformations happening in Montreal, Canada and the world with issues ranging from the renegotiation of NAFTA to the accelerating development of artificial intelligence and work place automation.
The panel series will be held at Concordia University’s downtown Sir George Williams campus. Most of the events will run from 6 to 8:00pm, are free and open to the public. The series began on January 30th 2018 at 6:00pm with a discussion about infrastructure, sustainability and social inclusion in Montreal in the wake of Valérie Plante’s election in November.

#WelcomeToCanada a discussion on the challenges of the social integration and the protection of asylum seekers in Montreal, the newly proclaimed sanctuary city. Panelists: Marjorie Villefranche, La Maison d’Haïti, Richard Goldman, immigration Lawyer, Florence Boudreau, Table de concertation des organismea au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes. Tuesday February 6th 6 :00pm – 8 :30pm, Samuel Bronfman 130 room.
Fake news: What are the impact on public opinion and society? Panelists: Jeff Yates, former Inspecteur Viral now working at Radio-Canada, Camille Lopez, Le Metroscope, and Eve Beaudin, Radio-Canada. Tuesday February 13th 6:00pm – 8:30pm
The difficulty of accessibility to health care for Transgender people in Quebec. Panelists: Caroline Trottier-Gascon, Groupe d’action Trans de l’UdeM, and others to be confirmed. Moderated by Kimberley Manning, Concordia professor. Tuesday February 27th 6:00pm to 8:30pm, at the conference room of the 9th floor of the John Molson School of Business.
NAFTA: Negotiating All For Trump’s America. Panelist: Thomas Mulcair, former leader of the opposition for the NDP, Michel Vincent, Conseil d’industrie forestière du Québec, Monique Simard, SODEC and Ian Lee, associate professor at the Sprott School of Business. Tuesday March 6th 6:00pm – 8:30pm, at the conference room of the 9th floor of the John Molson School of Business.
