Announcements

MIGS is delighted to announce that the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Canada, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and Conseil des relations internationales de Montréal (CORIM) have awarded the Institute funding to help organize the second edition of Montreal International Security Summit. The event will focus on China and the Indo-Pacific and will take place in October.

MIGS congratulates Fellow Phil Gurski on being named a Visiting Fellow in International Security at the University of South Wales.

MIGS is happy to announce that journalist Bogdan Lytvynenko will be collaborating with the institute to produce digital content in the lead up to the Montreal International Security Summit. He is a graduate of Concordia’s journalism program and has been accepted as a Rhodes scholar beginning in the fall on 2024. 
 

Publications

Marie Lamensch published a policy brief in the Cahiers de la sécurité et de la justice, a journal published by the Institut des hautes études du ministère de l'Intérieur, titled “Femmes en Ukraine: Des combattantes.”

MIGS Fellow Joana Cook co-authored a journal article titled “The life of children in families affiliated with terrorism: an ecological systems theory approach” in the journal Critical Studies on Terrorism.

Upcoming Events

March 15

MIGS, in partnership with the Canadian International Council, will host the Japanese Deputy Head of Mission, Minister Furuya Tokuro for a discussion on the Canada-Japan relationship.

MIGS will collaborate with Librairie Paragraphe Bookstore and CIPSS at McGill University for the book launch of "Russia and Ukraine: Entangled Histories, Diverging States" by Maria Popova and Oxana Shevel. You can register  here.

March 20

In partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace, MIGS will host a press conference at the Parliament of Canada and hold several briefings in Ottawa for the Canadian launch of the 2024 Global Terrorism Index.

March 21

MIGS will be a presenting partner of the 21th Annual Human Rights Watch Canada Film Festival taking place on March 21- 23. This year, MIGS supported the film "Mediha”, which will be screened on the opening night of the festival. The documentary tells the story of a teenage Yazidi girl recently returned from Islamic State captivity, who captures her journey as she confronts her past in order to fight for her future. 

MIGS’ Executive Director will speak at the event Global Insights organized by the John Molson International Business Association at Concordia University.

MIGS’ Senior Distinguished Fellow, Lt-General Roméo Dallaire, gave a lecture at Concordia University’s Journalism Department.

MIGS, in collaboration with the Canadian International Council (Montreal Branch), hosted “Democracy Drinks,"  an informal networking event bringing together active citizens and members of NGOs, international institutions, think tanks, and academia.

MIGS Fellow Joana Cook spoke at the “gender and leadership in counterterrorism symposium”hosted by the US Department of Justice and State Department of Counterterrorism as a keynote speaker.

February 29

The ​​Canadian International Council, in collaboration with the United Nations Association in Canada, hosted an event at MIGS titled "How to Build a Career in International Affairs?" 

MIGS Fellow Dr. Ewelina Ochab delivered an address at the International Conference on Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity.

March 1

MIGS Fellow Diego Osorio attended the “Gobeshona Global Conference 4”.

March 4

Dr. Ewelina Ochab spoke at the launch of the inquiry report on gender apartheid in Afghanistan and Iran issued by the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. She also spoke at an event titled  “Weaponization of Faith Against Uyghur Women” organized by René Cassin.
