This group welcomes individuals of all gender identities and sexual orientations to make art and connect in a supportive and affirming space. This group focuses on exploring creative expression and using art making as a tool for self care. All materials are provided and no prior artmaking experience is required.

What to expect: 

  • Creative expression: participants will be invited to creatively engage with a different colour each week using a variety of art materials. All materials are provided and no prior art making experience is needed. This group will focus on the process of creating rather than the end result. 

  • Safety and inclusivity: this group is dedicated to creating a supportive and welcoming space where participants can share their experiences, concerns and successes free from judgment. Sharing and discussion is always optional depending on your comfort level. 

  • Community: this group is intended to be a safe and confidential space where participants can connect with other members of the queer community.

  • Self exploration: through art making and discussions, participants will have the opportunity to explore their queer identities, narratives and personal growth in a thoughtful and reflective manner.

Facilitator:

This group is facilitated by Anni Jefferson, a queer and trans art therapy student working with the Concordia Arts in Health Center. Their goal is to provide affirming and empowering art therapy services to the queer community in Montreal.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy that uses the creative process of art-making to help individuals express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a therapeutic way. When words are difficult, art therapy can provide a non-verbal and visual means of communication, allowing participants to explore and understand their feelings and thoughts in a supportive environment. Art therapy can be a powerful tool for self-discovery, self-expression, and personal growth, making it a valuable approach to addressing a wide range of psychological and emotional issues.
