Generative AI is rapidly changing the landscape of all creative professions, science writing and communication are no exception. AI tools are evolving fast and it can be daunting to know how to approach them in an ethical and mindful way.
In this hands-on session, we will discuss the landscape of AI tools available to help analyze research, edit writing, and produce multimedia. We'll talk about what these tools are good for, what they're really bad at, and where the ethical lines are.

Lucas Kavanagh is a co-founder and the content director at Avo Media, a science-focused production company. For over a decade, he has distilled complex concepts into engaging media including articles, podcasts, videos, webcasts, and curriculum. His work has reached tens of millions of viewers worldwide and has been featured on SciShow, PBS Eons and in The Tyee. Lucas also sits on the board of directors of the Science Writers and Communicators of Canada.
