Thesis supervisor: Carly Daniel-Hughes

Thesis title: Making Space: Queer "Women’s" Role in the Creation of the Christian Left

Macalister is currently pursuing their M.A. in Religions and Cultures at Concordia University. She recently completed her B.A. at Bishop’s University, with a Honours in Religion, Society, and Culture and a Major in History and Global Studies in 2022.

Their current research highlights the role of queer “women” in the creation of the Christian Left within the United States. Her work focuses on centering the voices of two Episcopal priests and foundational queer thinkers, Pauli Murray and Carter Heyward, to consider how their theologies reconstructed what was understood by what it meant to be a Christian. This research likewise strives to challenge the conflation of Christianity and conservative sexual politics in a post Roe vs Wade reality.
