Our panel will discuss the impact of studying, working and living abroad, how it can change perspectives and what living in a new culture can do for your career. What should you consider before travelling? How long should you travel? How can you find a career abroad and once there, how to plan finances? You'll also hear about our panellists' personal experiences.

Part of the 2017 Alumni Matters graduation transition conference.

About the speakers:

Claudia Deme

Claudia Deme, BA 06, is Manager, Education Abroad Programs at Concordia University. She has worked in the Quebec higher education system for over 10 years, both at Concordia and at John Abbott College. Claudia is a proud Concordia alum, having earned her BA in Sociology in 2006. Prior to completing her university studies, Claudia spent three life-changing years living and working in China. This was easily the most transformative time in her life, and if asked, Claudia would eagerly encourage anyone to experience life in another part of the world.

Thomas Prince

Thomas Prince, MA 15, BA 11, is the Executive Director for CEED Concordia. He has been working in the international development sector for eight years and is a social entrepreneur, helping co-founder of Beads of Awareness. Before joining CEED Concordia, Thomas worked as the Program Director for the Grassroots Reconciliation Group. Thomas holds a Master's degree from Concordia in Social and Cultural Anthropology.

Alexis Lahorra

Alexis Lahorra is an undergraduate student in Communications, Cultural Studies and Spanish. She's a youth mental health advocate and president of Jack.org Concordia — a student chapter of the national non-profit youth mental health organization. She completed a Concordia Field School in Salamanca, Spain, last summer. She was awarded the Concordia Outstanding Student Award in 2016 by the Concordia University Alumni Association. In 2014, her anti-bullying awareness campaign called "Stronger than a Rock" earned first place in the category of Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice at Forces AVENIR — which recognizes student engagement.
