This event is presented in collaboration with the John Molson School of Business as part of the Jurist-in-Residence program. An initiative of the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Jurist-in-Residence program demystifies the law by connecting the Concordia community and the public at large to some of the brightest minds in Canadian law through its event series and mentorship program.
The Honourable Pierre-Marc Johnson
Pierre-Marc Johnson was a member of the Québec Cabinet between 1977 and 1985 and served as Premier before becoming leader of the opposition.
Mr. Johnson has accomplished State mandates for the federal and Québec governments, acting as Québec’s chief negotiator for the Canada-EU free trade negotiations from 2009-2018 and advisor to the Québec Government on NAFTA renegotiations in 2018. He has also conducted negotiations and mediations in sustainable development conventions, including the Rio Conference in 1992 as special advisor to the UN-Assistant Secretary General.
A lawyer and physician by training, Mr. Johnson is currently Of Counsel to Lavery Lawyers in Montreal.
Morton S. Minc, BA 67
A former chief justice of the Municipal Court of Montreal who has served in the justice system for more than 20 years, Morton S. Minc is perhaps best known for his work supporting programs that help offenders dealing with mental health issues, homelessness and substance abuse problems.
Despite a demanding career, Minc continues to give back to Concordia students, mentoring those in the Law and Society Program Minor and various student organizations. As Concordia’s first jurist-in-residence, Minc brings eminent jurists to the university, organizes field trips to tour different courthouses and attend trials and spearheads a lecture series and conference – all with the intention of demystifying the law.
