Position description
The School of Community and Public Affairs (SCPA) in the Faculty of Arts and Science invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sustainable and Equitable Economies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptional candidates at the Associate level may also be considered. We are seeking candidates who will connect the fields of political economy and alternative economic thinking with sustainability and diversity studies, with the goal of developing research and pedagogy that works towards the economic and ecological wellbeing of diverse communities. Interdisciplinary work combining economics, community, and society is key to SCPA's mission of connecting people and policy for a better world through innovative research and pedagogy. The successful candidate will teach in the undergraduate Community, Public Affairs and Policy Studies, and graduate Community Economic Development (CED) programs. They will be expected to teach in both English and French. Duties include research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution.
Qualifications and assets
Candidates must have completed their PhD in political economy, economic sociology, environmental studies, geography, or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Qualified candidates will have a research profile in the field of political economy and/or social economy, with a specific focus on sustainability and equity. Qualified candidates will also have experience working with a diversity of urban and/or rural communities in their efforts to improve their livelihoods and their environments, and will be able to demonstrate an intersectional and decolonial approach. The main criteria for selection are scholarly and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals in their letter of application. These will be carefully considered in the assessment process. The Department values diversity among its faculty and strongly encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented groups. Concordia University is an English-language institution of higher learning at which the primary language of instruction and research is English. However, the School of Community and Public Affairs (SCPA) offers bilingual programs, therefore the candidate must be able to teach in both English and French and demonstrate proficiency in both official languages.
