The Department of Political Science at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, invites applications for four limited-term appointments of 12-month duration in the following areas:
International Relations (24_LTA_POLI_M)
Public Policy and Public Administration (24_LTA_POLI_M2)
Canadian/Quebec Politics (24_LTA_POLI_M3)
Political Theory (24_LTA_POLI_M4)
Limited-term Faculty members at Concordia are full-time faculty members whose primary duties include teaching and service, with no research obligations.
Qualifications and assets
Successful applicants must be qualified to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate programs. A completed Ph.D. in Political Science or related discipline, or one near completion, is necessary. Evidence of teaching effectiveness is a key attribute by which qualified candidates are ranked.
Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals in their letter of application. These will be carefully considered in the assessment process. The Department values diversity among its faculty and strongly encourages applications from those who will contribute to that profile. Concordia University is an English-language institution of higher learning at which the primary language of instruction and research is English. Since this position supports academic functions of the university, proficiency in English is required. Working knowledge of French, including reading and grading student work in French, is an asset.
For the position in International Relations (24_LTA_POLI_M), we are seeking candidates with a strong teaching and research record in the areas of International Law and Politics. Preliminary course assignments for this position are as follows: Introduction to International Relations; Human Rights and International Justice; Human Rights: An Overview; and Social Movements and Protest Politics.
For the position in Public Policy and Public Administration (24_LTA_POLI_M2), we are seeking candidates with a strong teaching and research record in the areas of Public Policy and Public Administration. Preliminary course assignments for this position are as follows: Principles of Public Administration; Advocacy Groups and Public Policy; Principles of Public Policy; and Theories of Public Policy and Public Administration.
For the position in Canadian/Quebec Politics (24_LTA_POLI_M3), we are seeking candidates with a strong teaching and research record in the areas of Canadian/Quebec Politics with the ability to teach Quantitative Research Methods. Preliminary course assignments for this position are as follows: Introduction to Canadian Politics; Canadian Political Parties; Approaches to Social Science Inquiry; and Not‑for‑Profit Organizations and the Law.
For the position in Political Theory (24_LTA_POLI_M4), we are seeking candidates with a strong teaching and research record in the History of Political Thought. Preliminary course assignments for this position are as follows: Introduction to Political Theory; Political and Social Theory and the City; Hellenistic, Roman, Medieval Political Philosophy; Media, Technology and Politics; and Principles of Political Theory.
