Position description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Concordia University, invites applications for a three- year Extended-Term Appointment in Pure & Applied Mathematics (computational and numerical mathematics). 

Faculty members holding ETA positions at Concordia are full-time faculty members whose primary duties include teaching and service, with no research obligations. The appointment affords the possibility of promotion and permanent status.   

Qualifications and assets

Candidates must have completed their PhD in Mathematics or Statistics or be near completion by the start date of the appointment. Requirements include relevant teaching experience in the areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics with a focus on computational and numerical mathematics, which is the key attribute by which qualified candidates are ranked. The successful candidate will have experience teaching Advanced Analysis (second and third year) and Linear Algebra (first and second year) and experience with the use of technology in preparing and delivering courses. Teaching experience using SageMath and Maple in addition to high-level mathematical coding of languages is an asset. The position may entail a significant proportion of service and administrative responsibilities with corresponding teaching reductions. The service responsibilities may include the coordination of integral aspects for the undergraduate multi-section courses at the pre-university level such as curriculum validation, midterm exam scheduling and administration, mentoring of new instructors, and related leadership expectations.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a large department which offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. Department members' research areas broadly include Actuarial and Financial Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Probability, and Mathematics Education.
