Several current and former Concordia music students have roles in Opéra de Montréal's critically-acclaimed and sold out production of Porgy and Bess, a classic masterpiece by George Gershwin.

Chantale Nurse (BFA 07) plays Clara, one of the leads, and choristers include Yves-Aimé Pierre (BFA 07), Rica François (BFA 08), Myrtle Thomas (BFA 00), Karim Forde (BFA 03) as well as current students Jay Sherwood, Chris Thomas and Ruben Brutus.

Associate professor Jeri Brown, with whom all of the students have studied, spoke highly of the students' performances.

"The Opera de Montreal's production of Porgy and Bess was second to none. Simply spectacular with tremendous performances from the entire cast. In a stunning premiere on Jan. 25, memories rang strong for me as I recalled my 1979 U.S. performance in this magical opera.production. Most significant were the number of voice students that I taught who made it into this production."

Porgy and Bess ran from January 25 to February 3, 2014 at Place-des-Arts.
