POP Montreal International Music Festival

Mission/mandate/about the organisation:

POP Montreal International Music Festival is a not-for-profit grassroots organization that champions independence in the arts by presenting emerging and celebrated artists from around the world. Now starting its 21st year, POP’s main event is a five-day music and arts festival taking place in the early fall, featuring music, cinema, visual and media art, panels and special events. In addition to the main festival, POP presents multidisciplinary events locally and internationally throughout the year.

Context of the internship

ART POP CURATOR

Art POP is the contemporary art component of POP Montreal. During the festival, Art POP’s mission is to provide a curated platform for local artists to exhibit alongside international artists; to advance a curatorial space that is distinct and relevant to the local contemporary arts community while remaining closely connected with the identity of POP Montreal and its programming. The Art POP Curator’s chief objective is to curate, coordinate and run five days of contemporary art programming as part of the POP Montreal International Music Festival, September 28th - October 2nd, 2022. The Art POP Curator is also responsible for developing and coordinating Art POP Programming for off-fest events.

ACTIVITIES

Programming: The Art POP Curator is responsible for selecting the programming, liaising with artists, acquiring rights for and securing the artworks, and in some cases, developing appropriate partnerships for said programming. They must oversee the call for submissions and the submission review process, if applicable.

Budgeting: The Art POP Curator will be provided with a production budget for Art POP. The budget must be managed throughout the contract and submitted to the Executive Producer for review on request.

Special Guests: If special guests are required, the Art POP Curator will coordinate their involvement/participation, including any required transportation and accommodation

Program: The Art POP Curator will write and supply all necessary information to be included in the POP Montreal program, as well as in the Art POP section of POP Montreal’s website.

Production: The Art POP Curator is responsible for the coordination and on-site management of all the Art POP events, including scheduling; assessing technical needs; ensuring the rental/procurement of required equipment (in coordination with POP Montreal’s production team); submitting volunteer needs; running programming; working with POP Montreal’s Financial Manager to ensure proper delivery/return of floats and any cash; installation and tear-down.

Marketing and Press: The Art POP Curator will liaise with POP Montreal's Marketing Director, Segment Marketing Coordinator and Public Relations Director to supply information or give input concerning marketing initiatives associated with Art POP.

Wrap-up: The Art POP Curator is responsible for conducting the wrap-up, which includes ensuring that partner and sponsor agreements are fulfilled.
