Daphne

Mission/mandate/about the organisation

Centre d’art daphne is a non-profit Indigenous artist-run centre committed to serving the needs of emerging, mid-career, and established Indigenous artists through exhibitions and associated programming, workshops, residencies and curatorial initiatives. daphne encourages a culture of peace through critical, respectful exchange with our Indigenous and non-Indigenous peers and audiences.

Context of the internship

The internship at daphne will be awarded to a student with significant investment and lived experience in Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit) communities and artistic practice. Useful skills and knowledge include: the ability to converse in both English and French, self-motivated, ability to work on one's own as well as with colleagues, ability to express and communicate ideas well in speaking and in written texts.

This internship will be a very good experience working in an artist-run centre, with the additional benefit of working in an Indigenous -determined space that contributes to creating community through our work that is grounded in protocols and cultural traditions that strengthen us through building good relations, visiting, making art, and sharing food.

As well as working on day-to-day activities of opening the gallery, greeting visitors and smaller administrative tasks, the intern will work both independently and collaboratively with the Director and other members of staff on a variety of projects related to upcoming exhibitions and furthering connections to our communities.
