The John Molson MBA has placed 32nd in the world in the Corporate Knights 16th annual Better World MBA ranking.

The report assesses MBA programs on the basis of five sustainability-related indicators:

  • Number of institutes and centres dedicated to sustainable development
  • Percentage of core courses that integrate sustainable development
  • Faculty research publications and citations on sustainable development themes
  • Faculty gender diversity
  • Faculty racial diversity

Corporate Knights introduced the last two metrics for this year’s ranking. The rationale for their inclusion is that diversity can influence student perception of what leadership looks like, and means that business schools can model meaningful standards for more diverse corporate boards and management.

“The promotion of responsible business plays a significant part in our strategic plan," says Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of the John Molson School of Business.

"A key part of our mission is to go beyond the commonplace for business and society. These rankings show that we are doing just that.”

Concordia’s MBA program, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, was recently revised. Students learn to apply concepts in ethics and sustainability throughout the program, beginning with the core course, Responsible Manager.

Last month, the program was ranked 94th in the world in The Economist’s annual Which MBA? survey.
