This event will bring together four scholars from different disciplines in a conversation about two iconic and iconoclastic modernist filmmakers: Pier Paolo Pasolini and Sergei Paradjanov. The aim of this workshop is to place these two artists in relation to each other and discuss their respective engagement with ethnography and orientalism, their relationship to art, both modernist and pre-modern, their use of queer eroticism, and ultimately try to address the question of what kind of politics emerge from their work.
