FIND A VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Finding a volunteer opportunity

Get started by thinking about causes you care about and look into community organizations. Check out their websites and social media accounts to learn about volunteer positions.
You can also:

If you don't hear back

It’s normal for it to take time for a volunteer coordinator to respond to your application. If it’s only been a few days, keep waiting! If you don’t hear back from the organization in a few weeks, then you can send them a follow-up email.

Some volunteer opportunities are competitive, just like a job, so it’s possible that they chose another candidate. Sometimes non-profit organizations are simply short-staffed or too busy, and they may fail to get back to you. If that happens, don’t be discouraged. Keep applying for other opportunities!

Highlighting your experience

If the volunteer opportunity is connected to an on-campus opportunity, then it’s eligible to be included on your Co-curricular Record (CCR). Off-campus volunteering cannot be included on your CCR, but you can always include it on your CV! You can also ask your volunteer coordinator if they’d be willing to act as a reference.
