My experience abroad

Hiking in the Peak District: CSEP W23 William Zhang

My favorite part of going on exchange was…

Traveling around the UK and Europe and meeting a lot of interesting people. I also really enjoyed living on campus and participating in various social events.

I recommend going on exchange because…

It's a unique opportunity to be in an environment where you can travel, make a lot of new friends, get a taste of a new culture, all while progressing in your studies. For me personally, it was also the first time I was living alone and I learned a lot about managing my time and cooking under a budget.

The coolest place I visited while on exchange was...

The beautiful scenery of the English trails in the Peak District. I took a train to a remote area with my friend, and we walked over 70km in two days. There were lots of sheep, very kind farmers, and many small villages. Overall, it was a refreshing break from the 'real' world.

A tip I would give to students applying for exchange is…

Try and maintain balance between socializing, traveling, hanging out with friends, studying, alone time, etc. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy and you can easily feel overwhelmed by the abundance of choices.
