Teaching Opportunity: Limited Term Appointments in Journalism

The Department of Journalism at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, invites applications for up to three limited-term appointments in:

  1. Digital journalism with expertise in audio/visual
  2. Digital journalism with expertise in visual journalism
  3. Feature and narrative journalism

The Department of Journalism has been at the forefront of training skilled journalists who think critically about the profession and society for 40 years. The faculty and staff are committed to serving the profession by training skilled, thinking journalists and by producing scholarship, criticism, and commentary on journalism. Our graduates are nationally recognized journalists striving to fight injustice in a world awash with misinformation. They are known for their intelligence and rigour. We offer four programs: a three-year undergraduate program, two one-year graduate diplomas, and a two-year MA in Digital Innovation in Journalism Studies. ·       a statement of teaching philosophy/interests;

·       evidence of teaching effectiveness (teaching evaluations; syllabi; samples of student work);

QUALIFICATIONS

All applicants must possess strong professional credentials. Preference will be given to candidates who have an M.A. degree or higher and can demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness.

For the position in digital journalism with expertise in audio/visual, the ideal candidate will have professional experience in radio and video journalism.

For the position in digital journalism with expertise in visual journalism, the ideal candidate will have professional experience in news photography and/or video journalism.

For the position in feature and narrative journalism, the ideal candidate will have professional experience in feature writing and long-form narrative journalism.

Review of applications will begin as they are received and will continue until the required positions have been filled. All applications should reach departments no later than March 30, 2018.

These positions are subject to budgetary approval and department/unit need. Individuals holding limited-term appointments may be granted a subsequent appointment, given continued funding and need, as well as satisfactory job performance. Together, initial appointments and subsequent appointments may not exceed 36 months or a span of three consecutive years. They are normally at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2018 and ending May 14, 2019. Successful candidates will normally be expected to teach three courses per semester.
