Ballet Barre
Mondays and Wednesdays
4 – 5 p.m.
SGW – Le Gym – Studio C
Student $110 / Public $125
To experience the real deal of a classical ballet class, start first at "à la barre," or, let’s call it "ground zero," as every dancer starts their routine this way each class, no matter if they’re a beginner or a very experienced dancer.
THE BARRE
- A great way to learn more about your posture while stretching and toning muscles at the ballet barre
- Balance is often a very difficult thing to achieve straight off in the centre of a room; it requires a lot of strength to pull up and make your way through various movements. This technique will enable you to do more with a hand gently placed on a barre for assistance. Does that sound good? Well, it's still very challenging, but it's a great way to get a lot of stretching in while working on your ballet form!
- Those muscles someone mentioned? Now you will feel them as you purposefully elongate muscles and tendons alike, while strengthening your positions.
- This class is approximately 45 minutes for barre work, and the remainder will be centre work. This is where you get to use what you’ve learned, put it into practise, and have some fun!

Tuesdays and Thursdays
1 – 2 p.m.

- Floor combinations travelling across the room, sitting and lying down poses for "floor-ballet barre" (excellent for the whole body: abdominals, hips, legs, shoulders, etc.)
- Working with flowing energy to classical and contemporary music.
Somethings to note:
- Those who have had training as well as those who are in it for the first time are equally welcome in this class.
- Barefoot, socks with a bit of adherence or jazz/ballet slippers are better than running shoes.
- Music theatre / choreography component

Our classes are designed to improve a rider's outdoor skill set and increase endurance while providing an intense cardiovascular-based workout.
A few things you should take with you to spin class:
- Water and a towel
Drinking water throughout a spinning class is essential. Indoor cardiovascular exercise increases your body temperature and causes significant perspiration. All that sweating can leave you dehydrated if you are not constantly hydrating yourself during class. Please bring a towel to each spinning class. - Comfortable workout clothes
Workout clothes that allow for free movement are preferred. Fabrics that pull sweat away from your body leaving you cool and dry are recommended for spinning.

Don’t forget your water bottle, workout clothes, and towel. Now get on your bike and let's have some fun!
Spinning 3
Mondays and Wednesdays

SGW – Le Gym – Spin Studio
Student $110 / Public $125
Are you ready to sweat?
My spin classes incorporate traditional cardio rounds (known as HIIT) with pilates inspired strength training! When the 45 minutes is up, my goal is that you leave sweaty, strong, and with increased mobility. This class is especially valuable if you are currently recovering from any minor injury but still want to get in some movement with minimal stress to your joints.
Each class begins with a short warm up, including essential stretches and warmups to avoid injury and increase comfortable range of motion.
The majority of the class will consist of cardio in rounds, interspersed with arm, core, glute, and back strength training to the music.
We will conclude each class with a cool down influenced by yoga!
Each week will be a different musical theme, ensuring that everyone has at least one favourite song we get to spin to! You can look forward to themes like sunshine throwback (2000’s), club classics, eighties, classic rap, grunge and 90’s punk, and so many more!
Recommended Supplies:
- a water bottle, ideally with an easily accessible lid (non screw-cap)
- a towel (I told you things would get sweaty!)
- wrist weights, completely optional to increase the intensity of any arm & back exercises we do
- running or lifting shoes (must wear shoes, socked/barefoot is not allowed)

Evening Yin Yoga
Mondays
4:45 – 5:45 p.m.
SGW – Le Gym – Studio D
Student $65 / Public $80
This slow, meditative class offers a grounding practice focused on stillness and deep tissue release. Unlike dynamic or strength-based yoga styles, Yin Yoga involves floor-based postures that are held for 3 to 5 minutes, targeting the body’s connective tissues such as fascia, ligaments, and joints rather than muscles. The long-held, passive poses allow the body to relax gradually and use gravity to apply gentle stress to the deeper layers of tissue. This can improve joint mobility, increase circulation, and support overall tissue health. Yin also encourages mindfulness by inviting stillness and breath awareness, helping calm the nervous system, especially helpful at the end of a busy or overstimulating day. This class is especially beneficial for those recovering from high activity or burnout, athletes or active
individuals looking to support joint health and flexibility, people managing chronic tension or low back discomfort, and those healing from non-acute injuries such as repetitive strain or old sprains (with appropriate modifications). It is also ideal for anyone seeking stress relief, mental stillness, or better sleep.

Sunday Yin Yoga Flow
Sundays
8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
SGW – Le Gym – Gymnasium
Student $65 / Public $80
This class blends the slow, grounding elements of Yin Yoga with gentle, flowing movement to create a balanced and awakening practice. Beginning with soft, breath-led sequences inspired by Vinyasa, the class gradually transitions into longer-held Yin postures to target the deep connective tissues and calm the nervous system. The flowing portion helps warm up the body, increase circulation, and build a light sense of energy and presence, while the Yin poses invite stillness, flexibility, and inner focus. The pace is slow and intentional, with time to move mindfully and settle deeply. Ideal for mornings or times when you want to feel both gently energized and centered, this class is suitable for all levels. It’s especially supportive for those who want to improve mobility, release tension, and start the day with a sense of clarity and ease. Props are used as needed to support comfort in longer holds.

Kendo
Sept. 11 – Dec. 20
Thursdays, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
and Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. – noon
Student $140 / Public $155
Kendo (剣道) means "The way of the sword" in Japanese. It’s the martial art of traditional fencing that was developed and practiced by the Samurai. Kendo originated from the various sword fighting techniques of hundreds of years of combat and study. It deals with the physical and mental skills necessary for sword fighting.
By diligently learning sword skills, kendo sharpens the student’s mind and character, striving never to surrender against any adversity. Health benefits such as weight or stress management are possible as well since kendo is practiced as a total body workout. A kendo student learns to always be calm at heart, never letting emotions dominate over reason. For many, Kendo is a path to self-development and self-discovery.
Shidokan is a proud member of the Canadian Kendo Federation; all our instructors are certified. Our motto: “Respect, Honor, Discipline, Perseverance, Respect” For more information you can reach us at shidokankendoclub@gmail.com
Iaido
Iaido (居合道) is a Japanese martial art associated with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard.
The word iaido approximately translates into English as "the way of mental presence and immediate reaction."
While new students of iaido may start learning with a wooden sword (bokken) depending on the teaching style of a particular instructor, many of those who study iaidō use an unsharpened sword (iaito). Advanced practitioners of iaidō use a sharpened metal sword (shinken).
Because iaidō teaches the use of actual metal weaponry, it is almost entirely based on the teaching of forms, or kata. Multiple-person kata do exist within some forms of iaido, but the iaidōka (practitioners of iaidō) will usually use bokken for such kata practice.
"Nothing remains intact once it comes in contact with a Samurai Sword..., In the hands of a master a Samurai Sword can be an execution warrant for an opponent..." For more information, you can reach us at shidokankendoclub@gmail.com
