Upcoming: home/base by Olivia Vidmar and Ally Rosilio
As part of the La Centrale Curatorial Residency, curators Olivia Vidmar and Ally Rosilio explored the centre's archives to create an exhibition celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. home/base explores the geography of La Centrale over five decades, asking how archives can illustrate the spaces of La Centrale as a “home-base” for radicalized practice. Mapping the sites that this artist-run centre has existed in throughout Montreal since its founding in 1973 reveals the ways in which La Centrale as a physical space has moved, morphed and extended itself to suit the shifting needs of its communities. Join us for the finissage of the vitrine exhibition on January 25th, from 1 to 4 PM, at La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse! |

A Taste for Critique: A Poetics of Attention by Kessie Theliar-Charles
In her essay, Kessie Theliar-Charles reflects on the social role of art criticism and the archival dimension of writing, exploring how the fragmented histories of Black, Haitian, and Caribbean artists in Montréal shape her approach. Her work examines the scarcity of Black critical voices and the need for more writing dedicated to Black artists' practices. |
