ARTH 392 - Gender Issues in Art and Art History: Gender and Performance(s)

  • W - 18:00-20:15
  • EV-1.615
  • INSTRUCTOR: DJ FRASER

This 3-credit course is designed to survey performances of art and gender (and what that could mean) within and outside of the canonical development of art history. This course aims to deepen students’ understanding of gender expressions, transgressions, activist art and visual culture from early portraiture to selfie culture.

Going beyond the binary, ARTH 392 will address and examine the construction and deployment of gender identities in art and visual culture with a central focus on 20th and 21st century performance; new media and transgender art.
