ARTH 283 The Life and Work of Georgia O’Keeffe and Henry Moore

  • Mondays and Wednesdays, 11:45 am - 2:30 pm
  • Instructor: Dr. Vanessa Parent

This course will investigate the life and work of two central figures of American and British modernism: Georgia O’Keeffe and Henry Moore. Both active from the early 20th century to their deaths in the 1980s, each artist’s work offers unique insight into the cultural and aesthetic landscape of a period  marked by vast social and political shifts, and punctuated by significant events such as two World Wars and the Great Depression. Crucially, while the artists only met once and worked on different continents, they similarly found inspiration in the natural world, blurring the line between figuration and abstraction. Furthermore, the current exhibition at the MMFA offers a unique opportunity to experience their work in person.
