Projected Futures 9 x Volt-AgeOur award-winning science journalism summer school, Projected Futures 9, returns this summer. Projected Futures 9 challenges participants to rethink how science is communicated with society, exposing students to the foundations of evidence-based science journalism, and then asking them to experiment to create new forms of scientific storytelling. Spearheaded by Science Journalism Professor Dr. David Secko, and organized by Digital Journalism Instructor Cristina Sanza, participants learn the ropes of science journalism theory, all the while developing multi-media storytelling skills from writing to podcasting, to social media production and freelance story pitching. The school is available for credit as JOUR 642 (3 credits). Date: July 27-31, 2026 |

He was the inaugural director and associate dean of the School of Population and Global Health at McGill University, has held senior leadership roles at the World Bank, World Health Organization, and BRAC University, was the executive director of Canada’s COVID-19 Immunity Task Force, and was co-founder of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Throughout his career, Tim has helped strengthen health systems in communities around the world. Defy Dementia™ Episode 37: When Blood Meets BrainWhat’s good for the heart is good for the brain. Across your lifespan, there are many ways for blood supply to your brain to be compromised - some are covert. It is estimated that up to 20 percent of people over 80 experience blood vessel damage in the brain. In this episode, we explore vascular dementia and how problems with blood vessels can increase dementia risk over time. Dr. Eric Smith, Professor of Neurology, Radiology and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary, explains how vascular health affects brain function and what steps can help reduce dementia risk. Christine Aiken shares her lived experience, offering insight into life after a vascular dementia diagnosis and the importance of advocacy, support and finding meaning. Together, they highlight prevention, the warning signs to watch for and recovery after stroke. |

Brain Canada and CanNRT Partner to Support the Future of Neurodevelopmental Research in CanadaThe Canadian Neurodevelopmental Research Training Platform (CanNRT) and Brain Canada Foundation are pleased to announce a new partnership that will strengthen the CanNRT Fellowship, CanNRT’s flagship program for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and clinical fellows in neurodevelopmental research. Through this partnership, the existing CanNRT Fellowship will become the CanNRT-Brain Canada Fellowship. The program will continue to recognize research excellence while providing Fellows with the funding, mentorship, training, and national connections needed to build meaningful careers in neurodevelopmental research. The Request for Applications for the CanNRT-Brain Canada Fellowship will launch in Fall 2026. |
