June 2023

Dear colleagues,

It’s officially summer. I hope the arrival of warmer weather brings some time to recharge.

Dean of Students Andrew Woodall gives Vanessa Manroop a congratulatory hug. Vanessa won the O’Brien Medal and earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resource Management and Services

Convocation

Thank you to everyone who attended this spring’s convocation ceremonies. This celebration of our students’ hard work is one of my favourite moments of the year.

Our honorary doctorate recipients, Sandra Chartrand and Alain Bouchard, delivered inspiring and heartfelt speeches to our graduates. Their philanthropy over the years has contributed greatly to the betterment of our society. I was also impressed with our valedictorians, Kristoph Bardos and Victoria Belluscio, both of whom are extraordinary students with a bright future ahead of them.

I would like to congratulate the following faculty members on their promotions this month to Full Professor or Tenured Associate Professors.

  • Zeynep Arsel (MARK)
  • Alex Bitektine (MANA)
  • Claudine Mangen (ACCO)
  • Imants Paeglis (FINA)
  • Navneet Vidyarthi (SCBTM)

Tenured Associate Professors

  • Sharlene He (MARK)

  • Adriane MacDonald (MANA)
  • Xiaodan Pan (SCBTM)

Celebrating our success

Our strategic plan was unanimously approved by our colleagues at Faculty Council last month. I want to thank all members of the steering committee who met several times during the academic year to discuss our next goals for 2023-2026, as well as those who were part of the consultation process. Special thanks go to Guy Barbeau and Barbara Henchey who continuously collected comments and finalized the long version of the document. One of our overarching pursuits is to communicate our successes and I’m happy to share a few of them with you here.

JMSB international reputation

The MBA Case Competition had another amazing year. We are so proud of our students and thankful to Tim Field for his leadership. You can view this year’s results here.

I’m proud to share that CEO Magazine’s 2023 Global MBA Rankings has named Concordia’s John Molson School of Business Executive MBA program one of the best in the world. The program ranked 25th globally out of the 62 EMBA programs reviewed, up two spots from last year, and placed third in Canada. Additionally, the John Molson MBA program maintained its ranking as a tier 1 program internationally.

If you don’t already, be sure to follow John Molson School on LinkedIn and Instagram. This is where you’ll find photos from recent events and more showcasing all that we do.

Our faculty and staff members shine

Mahdi Mirhoseini from our Department of Supply Chain & Business Technology Management was featured as a Young & Aspiring Academic by NeuroIS Society Magazine. He’s a wonderful addition to our School and we are happy to see him celebrated.

Louise Champoux-Paillé earned two prestigious honours: the Quebec Lieutenant Governor's Medal for Exceptional Merit and the Prix du CIQ 2023 from the Conseil interprofessionnel du Québec (CIQ). As you know, Louise is co-director of our Barry F. Lorenzetti Centre for Women in Entrepreneurship and Leadership and is extremely well known for her work on governance and women in leadership with a career that spans more than 40 years. We are so pleased that her hard work and dedication have been recognized in these impressive ways.

Anie Rouleau, founder and CEO of The Unscented Company and our Entrepreneur-in-Residence, was named a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 award. Winners from each region in Canada will be announced in October.

Kudos to our students and alumni

Nicolas Bergeron, a student in our Department of Finance, won the Alexandre Quintal Co-op Student of the Year Award at the annual CARE Awards presented by the Institute for Co-operative Education. This award recognizes a student who is in high academic standing, has received excellent evaluations from their employer or employers and has shown outstanding leadership within the Institute. He had internships with Anderson (Tax services) and Bombardier.

Andrea Limbardi, a graduate of our EMBA program in 2016, has been appointed President and CEO of Reitmans (Canada) Limited, effective September 5, 2023. When she was completing her degree with us, she was Indigo’s Vice-President responsible for Eastern Canada and French Business, and quickly claimed several ranks (SVP strategic initiatives, chief digital officer and chief customer and digital officer) to finally became their President in 2022. She was recognized as one of Concordia’s 50 under 50 shaping tomorrow in 2021.

Myrielle Robitaille, an alumna of the EMBA program in 2021, was nominated for the University MBA of the Year (MBA universitaire de l’année) from the Association des MBAs du Quebec. Robitaille is the co-founder of Truxweb, an online platform that facilitates business relationships between shippers and carriers and reduces the time spent managing trucking shipments by 80%. We were thrilled to support her at the annual AMBAQ gala.

Rest and relax

I hope this summer you will be able to relax, recharge and realize projects that are important to you. Let’s use the coming weeks to focus on health and rest, and rebuild connections with colleagues, family and friends.

Take care,

Anne-Marie Croteau, PhD, CDir
