Healthy lifestyles in couples: Benefits and keys to success

Adopting a healthy lifestyle, including a nutritious diet and regular physical activity, is key to reducing chronic disease risk as we age. In couples, maintaining daily routines that create space for these healthy habits is easier when both partners are on board. Join two Montreal-area health experts to explore ways to help couples live healthier lives.

Concordia funding opportunities platform

We are pleased to highlight Concordia University's new in-house grant advertising platform. The aim of this platform is to make funding opportunities more visible to our research community, in an easy and user-friendly format - including listing of deadlines, funding amounts, eligibility criteria and internal contacts. 

New opportunities are added on a weekly basis. You can sign-up to receive notifications via email or check all available opportunities on the main page.

We encourage all researchers and research support staff to sign-up and explore the platform.

Alliance International Collaboration

• Given the increased demand, the program will now operate on a competitive basis, with three proposal submission deadlines per year. The deadline for the 2026 competition is November 25, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Deadlines for 2027 will be announced in January 2027.
• To include Canadian applicants who were unable to submit an application before the May 20, 2025 deadline, the 120-day rule will not apply, and they may submit a proposal to NSERC until November 25, 2026. 
• Information webinars will be held on September 15 and 16, 2026.

Defy Dementia™ Episode 39: Dispatches from AAIC 2026 - the Frontline of Alzheimer’s Research

This episode explores some of the latest dementia research presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in London, UK, with guest Dr. Rebecca M. Edelmayer, Vice President of Scientific Engagement at the Alzheimer’s Association and a leader in global dementia research and scientific collaboration.

Alongside co-hosts Jay Ingram and Dr. Allison Sekuler, Dr. Edelmayer discusses emerging findings that could shape the future of dementia prevention, treatment and care. Topics include research from two studies on brain changes observed in former professional soccer players and physician-supervised use of an oil containing active ingredients of cannabis, which may calm agitation in people living with dementia, respectively.

The conversation also examines a study in Latin America showing that lifestyle interventions designed to reduce dementia risk can be successfully adapted across different cultures and communities. Together, these studies offer new insights into early detection, risk reduction and improving quality of life for people affected by dementia.

Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE) Conference

The CCSBE conference brings together researchers, founders, investors, educators, and policymakers to explore how bold ideas turn into real world impact. This year’s conference theme is From Ideas to Impact: Connecting Entrepreneurship Education and Practice. The theme focuses on how entrepreneurship education, research, and practice translate ideas into real-world outcomes.

The Thematic pillars:

Cancer Translational Research Horizons (CRT Horizons)

We’re excited to announce that Registration and Abstract Submission for CTR Horizons 2026 are now open!

CTR Horizons brings together researchers, clinicians, trainees, industry partners, and innovators to showcase the latest advances in translational cancer research and foster new collaborations that accelerate discoveries from bench to bedside.

Submit your lay abstract today (maximum 250 words) for the chance to present your work in oral or poster format with a short question period. Your abstract should be prepared as a single paragraph containing the following information: Background, Objectives, Results and Conclusion. Make sure to highlight the translational potential of your work! You could share your latest results, upcoming proposal, or a novel discovery!
The deadline for abstract submission is September 14th 2026 at 11: 59 pm.

Brain Canada and CanNRT Partner to Support the Future of Neurodevelopmental Research in Canada

Brain Canada Foundation and the Canadian Neurodevelopmental Research Training (CanNRT) Platform are pleased to announce the launch of the CanNRT-Brain Canada Fellowship.

The CanNRT-Brain Canada Fellowship will support outstanding graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows conducting research on neurodevelopment and associated conditions at universities across Canada. The program will recognize research excellence while providing Fellows with the funding, mentorship, training, and national connections needed to build meaningful careers in neurodevelopmental research.

Successful applicants will be enrolled in the program for up to two years and will benefit from comprehensive capacity-building opportunities and support, including:

• a one-time Entry Award ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 CAD, based on their career stage
• a Training Passport up to $2,000 CAD per year while enrolled in the program
• two one-week learning and networking experiences at the Annual Summer School in Montreal, Québec in 2027 and 2028
