"One of the things that seduces me the most about the world of moving images, is its ability to create meaning out of pure illusions. Isn’t it extraordinary that out of what is actually just a blank screen filled with a succession of still frames, people can be brought to cry or laugh? I know this may feel very simplistic, but it has always fascinated me. And whatever the venture that I’m engaged in, its complexity and the amount of layers of artistic considerations it has got piled up over each other, when I can find at its core this pure and simple idea of the power of illusion, I feel sound and confident. Let’s have fun playing illusions to people, and bring them meaning and emotion."

Polyvalent, creative, eclectic and curious, Éric Tessier was born in St-Casimir, Québec, where he shot his first Super-8 film at the age of 13. After spending a year in Jamaica learning English and playing music with local bands, he studied cinema at Cegep Ahuntsic and Concordia University in Montreal where he began his career directing commercials and documentaries.

His short fiction films Sunny Snow and Come Out!, which he wrote and directed, were shown in festivals around the world and won many awards. His feature film debut, the horror thriller Evil Words, was an instant box office hit, followed by the psychological thriller 5150 Elm’s Way. Then on to exploring new genres, he directed the hit family drama Pee-Wee 3D: The Winter That Changed My Life, Quebec’s first produced stereoscopic feature film that became instantly a classic of its kind, followed by its sequel Junior Major which got a similar success.

Recently, he wrote and directed the adult drama You Will Remember Me which got a heartfelt and enthusiastic response from the public and the critics as well, and The Amityville Curse, a sequel to the famous franchise for Tubi.

Éric also worked on many TV series. He directed episodes of the hit series Two Brothers, 1 episode of the thriller series Room 13, and a complete season of the comedy series 3 X Nothing. He directed full seasons of English Canadian comedies Rumours and Sophie and for Québec, 3 seasons of the hit series O’ for which he won the GÉMAUX AWARDS FOR BEST DIRECTOR three years in a row.

He directed the hit drama series For Sarah and Runaway S1 & S2 which were all phenomenal successes in Québec and were adapted by French television and got a great reception internationally More recently he directed episodes of the CTV–NBC hit medical series Transplant and the comedy series Pillow Talk. More to come.
