Dre Vargas Alonso - Atelier Circulaire Mentor

Dre Vargas Alonso is our Atelier Circulaire mentor. Dre's mentee will benefit from a one-year membership with l'Atelier Circulaire and access to 20 "Fridays at the Studio". This can also include meetings with the co-directors to further support the mentee in the development of their practice/career.

Dre is the mentor for you, if you are interested in: playful/experimental photography and print-based media, book arts and community-based organizing.

Born in Guatemala, they are curious about immigration and displacement as a condition shaping identity formation, relationship building, and spatial imaginaries. Engaging with the affective artefacts of "home", from tokens to traditions, cultural tropes and reiterated imagery, Dre works in ceramic, photo, and print. They employ a meditative approach to making, enabled by qualities inherent within craft practices, channeling their ties to feminine, queer and dissident histories.

Dre lives and works in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal and is currently in charge of the Digital Print Department at artist-run center Atelier Circulaire.
