The FOFA Gallery at Concordia University, in partnership with SOMA in Mexico City is pleased to welcome Ellen Belshaw as curatorial intern thanks to the support of Young Canada Works. This international curatorial internship will bridge two cultural regions through the development of an exhibition program that will introduce artists from Mexico City to the Montreal cultural community. As curatorial ambassador, Belshaw will begin the internship at SOMA, a non-profit organization conceived to nurture discussion and exchange in the field of contemporary art and education in Mexico City. She will conclude the internship at the FOFA Gallery, working with the research produced during her time in Mexico.

Ellen Belshaw is a Montreal-based writer and artist whose creation usually revolves around explorations of the body and the nature of human interactions, while their research is predominantly focused in spatial theory, performance and sound art. They have previously worked as the Exhibitions Coordinator for the Art Matters Festival, Assistant Editor of Yiara Magazine and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Montreal's Studio XX. Belshaw received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art History and Photography from Concordia University in 2015.

La Galerie FOFA de l’Université Concordia, en partenariat avec l’organisme SOMA de México, est heureuse d’accueillir Ellen Belshaw en tant que stagiaire en conservation, grâce au soutien de l’initiative Jeunesse Canada au travail. L’objectif est de jeter un pont entre deux régions culturelles en élaborant un programme d’expositions qui permettra à des artistes de Mexico de découvrir la communauté culturelle montréalaise. À titre d’ambassadrice en matière de conservation, la jeune diplômée effectuera la première partie de son stage au SOMA, organisme sans but lucratif fondé pour alimenter la discussion et les échanges dans le domaine de l’art contemporain et de l’éducation à Mexico. Elle le poursuivra ensuite à la Galerie FOFA, où elle mettra à profit les recherches qu’elle aura menées dans la ville latino-américaine.

Écrivaine et artiste montréalaise, Ellen Belshaw axe ses créations sur l’exploration du corps et la nature des interactions humaines. Elle oriente par ailleurs ses recherches sur la théorie spatiale, la réalisation performative et l’art sonore. Auparavant coordonnatrice des expositions du festival Art Matters et rédactrice adjointe de la revue Yiara, elle siège actuellement au conseil d’administration du Studio XX, à Montréal. Ellen est titulaire d’un baccalauréat ès beaux-arts en histoire de l’art et en photographie de l’Université Concordia (2015).
