Dear Gina Cody School community,

Join us on September 8 to explore innovations in satellites, space transportation and advanced propulsion with Martin Tajmar of TU Dresden.

From Satellites to Advanced Propulsion: Innovations in Space Systems
Tuesday, September 8, 2026 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
EV Building, room 3.309
1515 Ste-Catherine St. W.
In person | Free

Register for the seminar

The inaugural Mark Pathy Space Institute Distinguished Speaker Seminar will feature Professor Martin Tajmar, head of TU Dresden’s Chair of Space Systems and director of its Institute of Aerospace Engineering.

Explore space systems research

Tajmar will introduce you to the Chair’s work across three areas:

  • Satellite systems and space science, including the SOMP satellite platform and astronaut experiments aboard the International Space Station
  • Space transportation, including engine tests and retro-propulsion studies for a future European lunar lander
  • Advanced propulsion, including miniaturized thrusters, Hall thrusters with three-dimensional thrust vector control and technology for deorbiting satellites without propellant

You’ll also get an overview of the Chair’s advanced testing facilities, including a highly precise thrust balance currently used by the European Space Agency to qualify thrusters for future scientific missions.

Meet Martin Tajmar

Martin Tajmar is an expert in space propulsion, advanced aerospace concepts and experimental physics. He has led major projects for the European Space Agency and NASA, authored more than 150 journal articles and holds 30 patents. His research has also contributed to the founding of two space startups.
