The last Capacity Fund Deadline of 2023-2024 is coming!
|
|
|
SHIFT believes that social transformation is not possible unless teams and organizations are well supported and equipped with the resources, skills, and capacity to implement or leverage their work.
|
The Capacity Fund is for you if:
- You are already part of the SHIFT Learning Community through a previously funded project, and are still aligned with SHIFT’s values and mission.
- You are seeking support with accessing training or consultants to support your team’s or organization’s sustainability.
- You are open to the possibility of shared learning with other SHIFT Learning Community members, as part of our goal of connecting our teams to one another towards a stronger social transformation ecosystem.
The next and final deadline before the fall is May 13th at 9:00am.
Unsure about your application? You can book office hours with our Funding Coordinator to discuss your ideas.

Pathways to Sharing Power Highlights
|
Two weeks ago, we had the delight of welcoming people from across SHIFT’s community and wider network for a series of rich discussions on the theme of sharing power in organisations and collectives. As speakers described their varied experiments with structures, processes, skills and ways of being that contribute to bringing forward decisions informed by diverse perspectives, participants connected on two levels - around the daily challenges of organising in a way that acts as a living resistance to the hierarchical models that dominate our culture, as well as the gift these experiments offered of connecting us to a sense of coming home to ourselves and to our communities in the fullness of our human experience.
The afternoon skillshare sessions were followed by the celebratory launch of three different visual representations of our governance model, including an interactive model that is available here. Come by SHIFT to check out the solar-system inspired diagram up on the wall, or the SHIFT Bicycle of Social Transformation! Thanks to all of our governance members who spoke so eloquently about their experience with shared power at SHIFT.

Teaching & Learning for Community-Led Healing: How the university can contribute to a growing network of community healing practitioners
|
Our final Learning Community Showcase of this semester highlights two inspiring examples of how the university can nurture and uplift community-led healing practices, to expand the network of care practitioners and increase access to diverse healing modalities.
The Community Care Practitioners Training program is a collaborative effort between the Black Healing Centre and Dr. Lisa Ndejuru, affiliate professor at Concordia’s Applied Human Sciences department, to train Black healers in decolonial, anti-racist, and afro-positive approaches to holding space for people experiencing mental health challenges. The training focuses on finding the root causes of clients’ issues rather than just treating symptoms, emphasizing a holistic and preventative approach to mental health.
The Concordia Arts in Health Centre is an initiative of the Creative Arts Therapy program. It is based on a novel systemic model and includes an onsite clinic, two community satellite locations, and a variety of community partnerships. The centre offers graduate students in the creative arts therapies programs opportunities to gain hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment, while offering free, affirmative, inclusive, and accessible art, drama, music, and play therapy.
