Join us at SHIFT's first event of 2025!

How do we react to harm within our own communities? What actions can individuals and communities take to interrupt harmful, aggressive or violent behaviour, without resorting to tactics that disproportionately impact structurally marginalized communities? Join us to learn alongside speakers who will share about the practices or policies they use to navigate these situations.

Speakers:

  • Christine Menendez, Amal Women Centre
  • Charissa Seng, Head & Hands
  • Lyn Black, Indigenous Support Workers Project
  • Christophe Lewis, Freedom is a Must foundation

February 5th: What We Create Together

A conversation about art, healing & transformation with SHIFT partners Ka Collective & Collectif Comm-Un

REGISTER NOW

SHIFT's February Learning Community Showcase will highlight the work of two SHIFT-supported initiatives that create opportunities for their community members to come together to make art. They will discuss the power of art-making to break isolation, forge connection, and open possibilities for challenging the systemic barriers to their communities' well-being.

  • Ka Collective, an initiative of Kapwa Centre, is a group of Filipino/a/x artists living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. They find support and solidarity through the Filipino value of Kapwa, honoring each person’s artistic practice while harmonizing with each other through shared processes and principles. Through monthly artist gatherings and community art-making workshops, they open spaces of connection to self, community and culture.
  • Comm-Un combats the profound injustices facing Indigenous, Inuit, and other unhoused communities in Montreal’s Milton Park neighbourhood with the purpose of guiding individuals from survival to leadership. Lifting up the creativity and skill of community members, they organise access to materials and conditions for members to practice their crafts, learn from one another and express themselves through art.

DEADLINE INCOMING!

Special Call-out for submissions:

Social Transformation as an Act of Love

The SHIFT Journal is looking for submissions of love letters addressed to future generations, movements, ancestors, and/or the Earth. We will take up to 16 submissions total for publication on or around Valentine’s Day.

It is our hope that this space for reflective writing provides some time for grounded expression and acts as a small reminder of the light that we are working towards during the cold months. Let these love letters remind and recommit you, and all those who will have the pleasure of reading them, to the lifelong dedication of building a better world.
