Hello fellow Concordians, Amnah here! I’m a graduate student in the Engineering department. You might find me doodling while enjoying the weather or exploring the streets around the city. If you enjoy the cinema or close-up photography, we have that in common.
The one thing I wished I would have known back in my first semester is… to take advantage of opportunities in the Concordia community is easier than one might think. So, establish your goals, prioritize, plan and sign up for these exciting roles early on. Start with the various kinds of on-campus volunteering and work opportunities, which teach valuable work ethics and teamwork skills.
A tip I have for new students is… connect with a Welcome Crew Mentor! And in general, don’t hesitate to ask for help. If one person doesn't know, the next will point you in the right direction. Don’t be reluctant to try out several activities, including campus events, clubs, associations, volunteering, on-campus jobs, and university services. Don’t be scared of overwhelming yourself because you’ll know where you feel at home. And don't settle quickly (not on options and not on friends)! The university is huge, diverse, resourceful, and ever-evolving.
My favourite part of being a Concordia student is… the easy access to a remarkable amount of resources. But sometimes, it’s simply the Tim Horton’s near campus.
