COACHING FOR FULFILLMENT

One of the most common features of great leaders is their capacity to coach their team to stay engaged, develop their skills, and encourage their contributions to the organization. In this session with Megan Webster, we will discuss the goals, structure and essence of fulfillment-based coaching strategies. Through modeling, videos, case studies, small-group discussions and role-playing, we will explore and practice the critical features of a fulfillment-based approach to coaching. This session is a non-required but useful complement to the Coaching for Will and Skill Workshop (new date coming soon).

HOW TO ACE YOUR NEXT GROUP PROJECT

Are you tired of being the one to do all the work in group projects? Or do you feel like your voice is not being heard in group discussions? Working in groups can be challenging at times, but it also has its advantages. Through effective collaboration you can often surpass what you could have accomplished alone and you can practice and develop key communication skills that are essential in the workplace.
In this session, we will look at the differences between groups and teams, explore members' roles and best practices for working in groups. You will learn how to set expectations when working with others and will have an opportunity to practice some communication strategies that you can use to succeed in your next group project.

This training is to support students to reflect on their experiences outside the classroom, and be better able to articulate their own learning and skills development to their peers, their teachers, and potential employers or graduate schools.
If you have participated in learning experiences outside the classroom (ex: workshops, internships, competitions, research, student leadership, performance, study abroad, etc) but aren’t sure how to express the skills you have gained, then this workshop is for you.
This is an interactive workshop that includes individual and group work, role-play/practice and immediate feedback. The learning and skills developed during the workshop will equip you to articulate your Concordia experience using a new lens, and help you explain the importance of these experiences to your peers, or as you enter the labour market.

One of the most essential resources in any organization is the motivation and drive of the people who work there. Great leaders are emotionally intelligent and self-regulating, and they deliberately help their team members develop those skills as well.
- Identify and explain the impact of unregulated emotional responses
- Work through a process to choose a clearer thought (based on the work of Byron Katie)
- Tailor a coaching session to support a coachee develop clearer thoughts
In this session with Megan Webster, we will discuss the goals, structure and essence of a set of coaching strategies designed to help us better regulate our stressful thoughts. Through modeling, videos, case studies, small-group discussions and role-playing, we will explore and try out these practices. Designing a workshop in which participants learn something, stay engaged, have fun, and leave empowered is not easy. In this hands-on, interactive workshop, you will bring your rough draft plans for a workshop you plan to lead in order to improve and refine your plans. Sitting in a circle, we will take turns sharing our plans and getting feedback from peers and from the facilitator, Megan Webster. Here, you will have a chance to share your learning targets and your plans while benefiting from specific and actionable feedback. Beyond this, you will begin to internalize some of the key questions and prompts to ask yourself as you plan future workshops.

What does it take to become an expert in your field? What does it take to get your expertise recognized? In this session, you will learn about the fastest ways to develop expertise in your field. You will learn about the critical role of networking and communities of practice in leveraging your experiences and developing your skills. Through whole group and small group discussions, video case analyses, and examining the most recent research, you will leave feeling empowered and optimistic about the potential you have as a future expert.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE APPLICATION

By 2027, employers will need around 88 million individuals in project management-oriented roles*. During this two-part workshop, you will become familiar with project management concepts, widely integrated in industries such as tech, health, non-profit, finance, engineering, performing and visual arts.
Bring a laptop to practice creating and managing projects using digital collaborative tools in a simulated project team environment. Templates and access to the virtual accounts will be shared with you during the workshop.
Through collaborative small group discussions, reflections, practice and games, you will leave feeling confident about your ability to use project management tools and concepts for your own school or work projects!

COMMUNITY COMPASS: READING WEEK IN MONTREAL & LAURENTIANS
February 24 to 27, 2020
Change directions this reading week! Help community organizations while having fun, making friends and gaining skills during Reading Week. Participants select one of our partner organizations, and offer to volunteer four mornings during reading week.
The Montreal experience includes:
- 2-hour pre-departure session with your team
- Four half-days of volunteering (9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday-Thursday)
- Post-experience wrap-up and celebration on Friday morning with all participants.
The Laurentian experience includes:
- 3-hour pre-departure session with your team
- 4 days, 4 nights volunteer/play/retreat at Camp Kinkora (9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday-Thursday)
- Post-experience wrap-up and celebration on Friday morning with all participants.
You can use the Community Compass experience to complete your Communication & Digital Capabilities and Leadership & Collaboration core skill modules. Make sure to fill our FutureReady reflection sheet to make it count for your certificate!
