Resources & services

The Otsenhákta Student Centre is a welcoming place where Indigenous students can receive assistance, support and find community.

We offer a variety of virtual and in-person services.

Note that in-person services will resume once the university opens for students. Please contact our staff if you have any questions about our resources and services. 

Virtual resources & services

Student Success Centre workshops: 

  • Drop-in sessions with a learning specialist: helps with understanding outlines, learning study habits, organization, time management, and can answer academia related questions.
  • Academic support with Suzan Searle: students receive help with starting and/or completing written assignments, projects, writing outlines, and checking grammar/spelling.
  • Library/reference workshops: helps students navigate the library and properly reference sources. 

Services:

  • Electronic rentals are available for remote learning. Contact our staff for inquiries.
  • Referrals: if students inquire about services the center does not offer, we will happily direct them to the appropriate department or person.
  • Access to tutors: students can request tutors. 
  • Weekly newsletter: informs students and alumni of events and workshops held by the center for the upcoming week. Information about the university is also included in the newsletter.
  • OSC Facebook page: public page for family, friends, and community members to follow and stay up to date with information regarding the university and the center. Non-OSC workshops and events for community members are shared to the page. 
  • OSC Private Facebook page: registered OSC students and recent alumni are allowed into the group. The private page is for upcoming events and workshops held by the center. Job postings are shared as well as information on academic deadlines, scholarships, and bursaries. 
  • Virtual Open House: introduces new students to the center and what services it provides.

In-person resources & services

Workshops: 

  • Student Success Centre; weekly academic support with Suzan Searle and drop-in sessions with a Learning Specialist. Students receive help with written assignments and projects, as well as learn how to better manage studying time and creating study schedules.
  • Information sessions: workshops based on a variety of subjects ranging from scholarship applications, writing professional CV’s, and nutrition.

Services:

  • Weekly newsletter: informs community of upcoming events, academic deadlines, and current information about the center.
  • Printer: available to students registered with the OSC. 
  • Indigenous Student Recruitment Fair: a chance for students to connect with potential employers and explore exciting summer employment/internship opportunities. Students can bring their CV’s and get tips for how to make a professional CV.
