GPWL944 - Investing Online

The workshop provides a “hands-on” experience to anyone interested in investing online. We will cover the basic features of major asset classes, as well as different types of personal trading accounts. We will then learn how to create and maintain a personalized core portfolio using a handful of Exchange Traded Funds and where to look for relevant financial information. Lastly, we will show you where and how to open an online trading account and how to place your first trade. All of this is in easy-to-follow and understandable terms and with different interactive activities.

Please note, it is highly recommended that students take GPWL941 prior to taking this workshop.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will:
1) State the fundamental terminology and concepts of the investment industry.
2) Assess their current financial situation in order to make timely and rational investment decisions.
3) Create personalized investment portfolios using the tools provided.

Leaders Information

This workshop is led by Oleg Volgarev, CFA.

Oleg Volgarev is an MBA candidate at Concordia University, John Molson School of Business. He is a CFA Charterholder ® and a graduate of McGill University Desautels Faculty of Management (BCom, Finance). Oleg has been working in the financial industry for over 10 years, holding various roles within Global Trade Finance, Wealth Management, Private Banking and Discount Brokerage. His interests include behavioral finance, infrastructure investments, and corporate efficiency.
