GPTK795 - Concordia TA and RA Essentials

The Teaching and Research Assistants at Concordia (TRAC Union / PSAC Local 12500) is a labour union local comprising the teaching assistants and research assistants at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.

The TAs and RAs Essentials workshop will clarify basic information on the collective agreements including what every TA or RA must know before, at the moment, and after signing their contracts.

This workshop will help TRAC members to know more about their rights as employees.

Learning Objectives

The main objective of this workshop is to help TAs and RAs at Concordia University to be aware of their rights and responsibilities and all issues regarding their contracts, and more broadly:
• Increase the quality of education at Concordia University,
• Improve the working conditions of TAs and RAs,
• Ensure TRAC members are treated fairly,
• Facilitate effective communication with professors and departments,
• Know what TRAC is and how TAs and RAs may benefit from their union.

Leaders Information

This workshop is led by the TRAC Executive Committee.

1. Nader Jafari Nodoushan - He was engaged in TRAC activities since 2013 through some volunteer activities such as helping in mobilization and grievances. Then after, he was elected as the president of TRAC union in April 2014 for a year. He was re-elected for the same position in 2015 to work in favor of TRAC members.

2. Gounash Pirniya - She joined TRAC as a labour relation and grievance officer in 2014 and was re-elected in 2015. Before she started working as an Executive Committee member, she joined TRAC voluntarily as a member of mobilization and strike committee and helping in mobilizing members for reaching a better working environment. She did her best to defend member’s right during her mandate.
