GPDI512 - Build your first website using Wordpress

This workshop is for people who wish to learn how to create a website using the platform for the purposes of academic engagement and knowledge mobilization. First, you will understand how to choose your domain and design your site map. Next, you'll learn how to set up a basic site using their built-in features. You will be guided through each step, including how to create static pages, how to insert media, and how to link the pages with a menu. You'll explore Wordpress themes and learn how to customize the look and feel of your website. By the end of the course, you'll get set up on Google Analytics so that others can find your site. No HTML or CSS knowledge required.
This workshop will take place in a computer lab.

In this workshop you will learn to:

1- Acquire a domain, design a site map, and build a basic Wordpress website
2- Explore themes and tools for customizing your website
3- Apply best practices for web content creation

Leaders Information

This workshop is led by Maya Hey.

Maya Hey is a Vanier scholar (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) and PhD candidate in Communication Studies at Concordia University. She is also a Public Scholar with the School of Graduate Studies (2018-2019), aiming to bridge the gap between academic research, industry professionals, and media makers. Her doctoral research examines fermentation and feminist theory, particularly attending to questions of power, performativity, and material practice.
