Program description

The Horizon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Histories of Photography in Canada will actively participate in the editing, research, and writing of the first authoritative history of photography in Canada, to be published online by Art Canada Institute/Institut de l’art canadien, as a series of thematic installments (2017-2020), in English and French. Working closely with the volume’s editor-in-chief, the Fellow will occupy an office in the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art, becoming an Associate Member for the duration of the appointment. In addition to contributing both research and writing to the Histories of Photography in Canada, the Fellow will be encouraged to pursue a postdoctoral research program, notably revision of his or her thesis for publication.

Academic qualifications required

  • PhD in Art History and/or Visual Culture, with a research program and publication record in Canadian photography history and theory;
  • Excellent communication skills in either English or French, with the ability to read scholarly materials in the second language.
