Academic freedom

The adoption of Bill 32 requires university-level educational institutions to develop a policy on academic freedom. Share your feedback on the draft.

University consultation

The National Assembly of Quebec adopted An Act Respecting Academic Freedom in the University Sector (Bill 32) in June 2022. The law requires university-level educational institutions to adopt a policy pertaining exclusively to academic freedom, providing for specific parameters as described in the legislation.

As a first step, a small committee drafted and revised a policy and procedures in conformity with the law. As a next step, we are turning to the university community – faculty, students and staff – for your comments on the draft policy. Following the consultation, a final version will be presented to Senate for its approval in May.

You have until March 21 at 5 p.m. to share your comments. All responses will be held in strict confidence.
