Hanyang International Summer School (HISS ) is one of Korea’s leading summer programs. Every year, around 2000 students spend 4 weeks at one of Korea’s leading private universities. HISS offers world-class education combined with a variety of unique cultural experiences. Every year HISS is thrilled to host students and faculty from around the world, and this year we are looking forward to meeting you!

About the program

Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) offers 57 courses from a range of fields of study, such as Business and Economics, Social Science and Communication, Media Journalism, International Studies, Mathematics and Natural Science as well as offering a choice of 3 activities to take a dive into the trendy Korean culture for free of charge. All taught in English by leading scholars from home and abroad for clearing a maximum of 9 credits.

Classes begin: Monday July 3, 2023 

Classes end: Friday July 28, 2023 

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to participate in the Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) you must meet the following criteria.

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at Concordia.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (CGPA).
  • Completed at a minimum of 24 credits toward your current degree program by the time you leave for the program.

HISS runs for four weeks aand offers a seleciton of courses in a variety of fields, such as:

  • Business and Economics
  • Social Science and Communication
  • Media Journalism
  • International Studies
  • Mathematics and Natural Science

Credit Transfer

Students can take 3 - 9 Concordia credits. All students must request faculty permission to take these courses for credits toward their Concordia degree.

Estimated costs & bursary

Host institution fee: 

Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) is an all-inclusive programme. Find out what is included in the 2023 programme fee and read about the scholarships we offer.

Program Fees:  KRW 2,000,000 (approximate cost in $1970 CAD).  

Tuition: 3 credits of Concordia tuition to be paid to Concordia University.  For an estimate of tuition fees, please use tuition fee calculator.

Additional costs: Participants are responsible for paying their own airfare and airport taxes; local transportation costs; travel insurance; visas; meals; personal expenses or on-campus accommodation.

Quebec Mobility Bursary:

Concordia International offers a $ 1950 CDN to students who qualify.  For more information on the bursary, visit the Concordia International funding webpage. Summer program applicants do not need to submit a bursary application as it is part of the on-line summer program application, and you will automatically be considered for the Quebec Mobility bursary. Details on the payment of the bursary will be sent to successful applicants. 

Accommodations

Hanyang has special accommodation options arranged for HISS students. Please check out the list below for HYU affiliated accommodations near the campus, Airbnb, and a list of accommodations certified by the Korean government. For details and rates, please visit the website of each accommodation. Students can make reservations directly on the accommodation website. Please note that the number of spots is limited for affiliated accommodations and that rooms may be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Accommodations can be found for a rate between KRW 800,000~1,100,000 (USD 700~900).
