Engineering & computer science databases

Below is a selection of the more important databases in Engineering and Computer Science available at Concordia Library. This is not a complete list. Additional databases may be found by viewing the Databases by Subject page.


Building & civil engineering
  • ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers)
    • ASCE Library: 
      The online ASCE Library contains all journal articles published from 1983 to present and proceedings papers published from 2000 to present. Concordia libraries has access to all the proceedings fulltext and some of the journal content.Try the Quick Search or the Advanced Search box, available in the top right corner, and scroll down to see results.
    • Civil Engineering Database (CEDB): 
      Provides bibliographic access to all American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) publications, including journals, conference proceedings, books, standards, manuals, magazines, and newspapers. Includes links to fulltext in the ASCE Research Library where available.

  • Compendex: 
    Compendex database is the definitive source of engineering information covering the engineering research literature since 1884. A bibliographic database with references to more than 5,000 engineering journals and conferences, this version of Compendex is updated weekly to ensure that you have access to critical new developments in your field. Compendex is the electronic equivalent of the Engineering Index. Also indexes websites which are pertinent to engineers. 

  • Geobase: 
    Citations with abstracts to literature in physical and human geography, geology, mineralogy, ecology and development studies. Integrates the content of several print indexes, including Geographical Abstracts and Ecological Abstracts. 

  • NRC-IRC Publications: 
    This database lists the publications of the National Research Council of Canada's Institute for Research in Construction as well as its predecessor, the NRC Division of Building Research since 1947. Many of the references included have links to fulltext documents. 

  • TRID Database: 
    TRID is an integrated database that combines the records from U.S.Transportation Research Board's Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) Database and the OECD's Joint Transport Research Centre's International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) Database. TRID provides access to over 940,000 records of transportation research worldwide. 

  • Quakeline: 
    Produced by the National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research at the State University of New York, Buffalo, this database contains over 40,000 references to publications relating to earthquakes, earthquake engineering, national hazard mitigation and related topics. 

  • Trade Journal Articles
    • ProQuest Business Databases:
      This collection of databases include articles from trade publications, including Canadian sources, which will provide, for example, real world applications of technology and new materials, descriptions of current and past engineering projects (useful if looking for case studies). Search results can be limited to SOURCE TYPE - TRADE JOURNALS.
    • Business Source Complete: 
      This database includes articles from trade publications which will provide, for example, real world applications of technology and new materials, descriptions of current and past engineering projects (useful if looking for case studies). Search results can be limited to SOURCE TYPES - TRADE PUBLICATIONS.

      Multidisciplinary database that provides number of times articles are cited in the literature. Coverage includes conference proceedings.

Chemical & materials engineering
  • ASTM journals:
    This is a collection of full-text e-journals provided by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). 

  • Compendex: 
    Compendex database is the definitive source of engineering information covering the engineering research literature since 1884. A bibliographic database with references to more than 5,000 engineering journals and conferences, this version of Compendex is updated weekly to ensure that you have access to critical new developments in your field. Compendex is the electronic equivalent of the Engineering Index. Also indexes websites which are pertinent to engineers. 

  • Reaxys: 
    Includes articles, chemical compounds and chemical reactions. Searcheable by keyword and by chemical structure, reactions, formulas or CAS Registry. 

  • SciFinder: 
    Searches Chemical Abstracts which indexes a wide range of international literature in chemistry and related fields (biology, engineering, physics, geology and material sciences). Includes journal articles, patents, dissertations, conference proceedings.Searcheable by keyword and by chemical structure, reactions, formulas or CAS Registry. 

  • Scopus:
    Multidisciplinary database that provides number of times articles are cited in the literature. Coverage includes conference proceedings.

  • Web of Science:
    Multidisciplinary database that provides number of times articles are cited in the literature. Coverage includes conference proceedings.

  • Electrical engineering databases: May be useful for finding information in electrochemistry and materials engineering

 


Computer science & software engineering
  • ACM digital library:
    Provides access to citations, abstracts and full-text of articles published in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) journals, magazines, conference proceedings and newsletters. ACM publications cover computer science, information technology, software engineering, networking, wireless communications, and other computing-related subjects

  • IEEE Xplore:
    Provides access to citations, abstracts, and full-text of articles published in the journals, transactions, and conference proceedings of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and of the British-based Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) from 1988 onwards. Current IEEE standards are also available. This database covers the literature in many fields including circuits, communication systems, computer engineering, information theory, robotics, power engineering, signal processing, telecommunications

  • INSPEC:
    Citations with abstracts to literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics and computing. Includes technical journals, proceedings, books and reports. Contains Physics Abstracts, Electrical and Electronics Abstracts and Computer and Control Abstracts. By default, the database is searched together with Compendex, but both INSPEC and Compendex can be searched individually by selecting or deselecting one of the databases. Duplicate results can be easily removed. 

  • Web of Science:
    Citation databases allow identification of the number of times a particular work or author is cited in the literature. Web of Science includes the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI) a multidisciplinary database covering the journal literature of the sciences, including computer science and engineering.

  • Computers & Applied Sciences Complete:
    Contains academic journals and professional publications covering engineering disciplines, computer theory & systems, new technologies, and social & professional contexts.

  • Semantic Scholar:
    Semantic Scholar is a new search tool, which covers primarily computer science and neuroscience topics. It provides a variety of facets to filter search results and includes citation and reference information. Additionally, it attempts to identify and extract key parts of the papers it indexes in order to help people scan the information more quickly.

Electrical & computer engineering
  • INSPEC:
    Citations with abstracts to literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics and computing. Includes technical journals, proceedings, books and reports. By default, the database is searched together with Compendex, but both INSPEC and Compendex can be searched individually by selecting or deselecting one of the databases.     GreenFILE is a multidisciplinary database covering many aspects of environmental sciences from the perspective of disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and engineering. The database indexes academic journals, magazines, trade publications and monographs. 

  • SciFinder: 
    Searches Chemical Abstracts which indexes a wide range of international literature in chemistry and related fields (biology, engineering, physics, geology and material sciences). Includes journal articles, patents, dissertations, conference proceedings.Searcheable by keyword and by chemical structure, reactions, formulas or CAS Registry. 

  • BIOSIS previews: 
    BIOSIS Previews is the most comprehensive index in life sciences.Subjects covered include general biology, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, biochemistry, ecology, environmental biology, botany, zoology, biomedicine, pharmacology, veterinary science, nutrition; and public health. 

  • TOXNET: 
    TOXNET "The Toxicology Data Network" from the U.S. National Library of Medicine, comprises databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases. The TOXNET "Search All Databases" option allows for simultaneous searching of multiple databases such as HSDB, IRIS, CCRIS, and GENE-TOX. Mechanical & Industrial engineering
  • ASTM journals:
    This is a collection of full-text e-journals provided by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). It includes documents from journals on civil engineering materials, forensic sciences, testing and evaluation, and more.

  • Compendex: 
    Compendex database is the definitive source of engineering information covering the engineering research literature since 1884. A bibliographic database with references to more than 5,000 engineering journals and conferences, this version of Compendex is updated weekly to ensure that you have access to critical new developments in your field. 

  • INSPEC:
    This database covers research literature, going back to 1896, in physics, electrical engineering, electronics and computing, as well as manufacturing, production and mechanical engineering.

  • Aerospace Research Central (ARC):
    A full text collection of journals published by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Concordia subscribes to some of the journals in this package.

  • Aerospace database:
    The Aerospace and High Technology Database covers research in aeronautics, astronautics, and space sciences. The database includes references to journal articles, conference papers and technical reports from many different journals.

  • Recent Advances in Manufacturing (RAM):
    RAM covers all aspects of manufacturing and research including : manufacturing; industry (general); manufacturing management; environmental and quality management; product development; manufacturing systems and processes; applied technologies; maintenance, monitoring and inspection; education and training. 

  • SciFinder: 
    Searches Chemical Abstracts which indexes a wide range of international literature in chemistry and related fields (biology, engineering, physics, geology and material sciences). Includes journal articles, patents, dissertations, conference proceedings.Searcheable by keyword and by chemical structure, reactions, formulas or CAS Registry. 

  • PubMed (Medline): 
    PubMed database provides citations with abstracts to worldwide biomedical literature. Covers research, clinical practice, administration, policy issues and healthcare. Includes all foreign languages and is fully indexed. 

  • Trade Journal Articles
    • ProQuest Business Databases:
