September 2022 Dear colleagues, It’s been a busy month for us all, and I want to thank you all for a booming start to the academic year. You’ve shown up in support of the School in different ways over the last few weeks, and I want you to know it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Here are some highlights. |

THE BACK-TO-SCHOOL BBQ WAS A SUCCESSWe couldn’t have asked for better weather to connect and mingle together in person. I appreciate you taking the time out of your schedules to come by, grab a bite, and meet your JMSB friends and colleagues. I’d like to thank Kelly Hall for her work in organizing this memorable event. Make sure you take a look at the pictures! SHUFFLE RESULTSI was touched to see the notable fundraising effort of our community this year, with a whopping $11,361 raised by the JMSB Shufflers team. This year’s donations are going towards a bursary named after our friend and colleague Fassil Nebebe who passed away last August. I’d like to congratulate our own Barbara Henchey, team lead and Shuffle organizing committee co-chair. This year’s Shuffle 33 had a record-breaking 620 individual shufflers registered who raised over $220,000 for student bursaries. Bravo, and thank you! |

CMS HOSTED ITS LARGEST CAREER FAIR EVERLouise Anne Coté and the Career Management Services (CMS) team hosted their largest in-person Career Fair for John Molson students ever on September 26. With 70 employers and almost 700 students in attendance, this dynamic 7-person team delivered a memorable experience for our students and industry partners. Congratulations, CMS team! ENTREPRENEURSHIP IS TOP OF MINDJMSB hosted two events that covered relevant topics in today’s evolving economy. The National Bank Initiative in Entrepreneurship and Family Business hosted a timely talk on global digital entrepreneurship and innovation, and the Barry F. Lorenzetti Centre for Women Entrepreneurship and Leadership held a panel to discuss the power of women entrepreneurs. I’d like to applaud the tremendous efforts of the directors of the research centres, who delivered well-attended events and covered such important topics. Chapeau, Ehsan Derayati, Ingrid Chadwick and Louise Champoux-Paillé. |

MEETING WITH STUDENT LEADERSThis year I’ve resumed my annual in-person meeting with student leaders across JMSB. Guy Barbeau brought everyone together for a coffee and a chat, where leaders shared with me their plans and programs for the coming academic year for our undergraduate and graduate students. As our relationships with student groups strengthen, I encourage you to support and collaborate with them to fuel innovation and growth that is relevant to our students. ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTSAmr Addas has been re-appointed as the Director of the Van Berkom Investment Management Program. He will continue to make a notable impact on our students, and raise the profile of our faculty in the conversations around sustainable investing. CLOSING REMARKSAs the semester ramps up and we get closer to mid-terms, the mental health of our community is increasingly more important to keep in mind. On top of the regular stresses of the semester, I’d like to finally remind everyone of the October academic dates “shuffle.” On that note, I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. Warmest regards, Anne-Marie Croteau, PhD, CDir |
