This posting represents a full-time contract position for the duration of two years.


Reporting to the Executive Director of the Equity office, the incumbent contributes to the advancement of Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility (EDIA) within Concordia’s faculty and staff community through collegial consultation, the building of partnerships and the development and implementation of pertinent measures and initiatives. In addition, the incumbent will offer workshops and other educational activities to the University community on best practices regarding unconscious bias, hiring, promotion, and performance evaluation processes.

Primary responsibilities

  • Develop a prioritized plan to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility for Concordia’s workforce (immediate, medium-, and long-term) with proposed timelines.
  • Provide leadership in the areas of faculty and staff diversity, equity inclusivity, and accessibility, as well as respectful workplaces, including the development and implementation of policies, programs, workshops and practices.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to the University's senior leadership with respect to existing and emerging diversity, inclusivity, equity, accessibility, and respectful workplace programs in higher education and related matters.
  • Engage in outreach and education, through the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, seminars, programs, and individual coaching promoting awareness and understanding of matters such as unconscious bias, conflict of interest, and what constitutes a respectful university.
  • Advise, assist, and support members of the University in resolving equity related concerns and incidents in a knowledgeable, effective, and constructive manner. Apply an in-depth knowledge of Concordia's resources, policies, and procedures as well as best practices to equity-related questions, concerns, and situations, commensurate with the functions of the Equity Office.
  • Conduct intake interviews, design effective response and/intervention plans, meet deadlines and evaluate results. Participate in regular incident and case review to support, develop and maintain best practices and approaches.
  • Build strong relationships both within Concordia and with the external community, to champion best practices and the development of collaborative initiatives.
  • Cultivate partnerships with PSE institutions and other relevant organizations.
  • Respond to the range of submissions and requests received regarding faculty and staff diversity and equity.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, the Office of the Vice-President Research and other units across the University to ensure alignment of diversity, inclusivity, equity, and accessibility efforts for student, staff and faculty members.
  • Represent the university, where appropriate.
  • Ensure that the University meets its obligations under related legislation, including but not limited to Federal and Provincial law and Tri-council requirements. Conducts research and analyzes data for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Other duties as requested by the Executive Director.


  • Master’s degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities and two to four years experience working in a university environment, and/or experience in championing EDIA in a complex administrative environment.
  • Deep understanding of EDIA, intersectionality, and anti-oppression principles and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially with internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English communication skills. Basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken and written French to understand presentations and documents.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and familiarity with or ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and influencing skills.
  • Well-developed listening, analytical, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
  • Diligent attention to detail as well as excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Sound judgment and use of discretion as well as ability to network and maneuver through complex situations.
  • Capacity to interact sensitively and equitably with people with diverse experiences, backgrounds, concerns and/or viewpoints.


$ 81,001.35 - $ 96,759.60 per annum
