This posting represents a full time, contractual position, effective until September 1, 2021.


Reporting to the Director in the Office of Student Academic Services (SAS) or Associate Dean SAS in the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Arts & Science, the incumbent assists in the development and implementation of recruitment, advising, retention, readmission and graduation strategies and activities of the Faculty. He/she recruits, counsels and guides students from the time of a student’s entrance into a program in the Faculty of Arts and Science to graduation.

Primary responsibilities

  • Participate in the establishment of team objectives and operational plans for recruitment, advising, retention and readmission of the Faculty’s undergraduate students relating to academic programs and regulations.
  • Advise undergraduate students in matters relating to their academic pursuits and career aspirations.
  • Evaluate students’ academic records for degree and program requirements.
  • Provide timely and appropriate responses to student requests regarding course exemption and transfer credit assessments, student exchange and any other request for exceptions to University academic rules and regulations to students, department advisors, as well as the Office of the Registrar and other relevant party..
  • Participate in recruitment activities and events designed to attract potential students to the Faculty and its department(s).
  • Present and handle complex requests from individual students to the: Student Request Committee, Honours Request Committee or any other related committee(s) that may be created.
  • Evaluate/respond to requests for readmission from students in failed standing.
  • Analyze data and provide information to faculty, students and other individuals where appropriate; make recommendations to the Dean, the Associate Dean of Student Academic Services, SAS team members, and departments regarding trends, practices and procedures.
  • Pro-actively counsel/inform departmental advisors, Chairs, staff members, and the student population about academic programs, rules and regulations. This includes participation in: Recruitment/Open House activities, Orientation/Advising sessions, updating information on SAS website, planning/facilitating workshops for staff and special events.
  • Represent the Student Academic Services team on various internal and external meetings and/or committees that deal with recruitment, admission and retention of undergraduate students.
  • Participate in the training and support for departmental advisors, Chairs, faculty and staff members on advising and retention of undergraduate students.
  • Maintain active communication with students and university departments and services.
  • Provide registration assistance to, and resolve registration problems for, students and departmental academic advisors, Chairs and staff members.
  • Provide advice and counsel to students with academic issues.


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of related work experience in an academic setting.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French and English and written English language communication skills.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of French reading comprehension is essential.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate Level) of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills is essential; ability to deal effectively with prospective, current and former students and alumni, with faculty and staff members and on internal and external departments and committees.
  • Must have proven writing, analytical and organization skills; the ability to work under pressure for extended periods of time, take initiative and work independently and also within a team environment.
  • Must have a proven ability to coordinate projects and work within strict deadlines.
  • Available to work on SGW campus as necessary
  • May be asked to work flexible hours occasionally (e.g. special events, extraordinary circumstances).


$ 72,783.89- $ 86,940.11 per annum
