FINANCIAL OFFICER – RESEARCH FUNDS (P1555)

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Research Funds, the incumbent is accountable for monitoring financial controls over research and special initiative projects. He/she also ensures that financial managers comply with agency policies or contractual agreements for actual expenditures and that financial reports are complete, accurate, timely, and in compliance with University and external requirements.
- Set up and close project accounting and budgetary structures.
- Prepare journal entries, cash receipts, financial statements, invoices, and other project financial requirements.
- Reconcile accounts receivable, payable, and overhead.
- Prepare audit files for project and year-end audits.
- Reconcile and analyze deficit, surplus, budgetary variances, and exceptions reports.
- Review expenses charged to funds to ensure that University policies and funding sources requirements are respected.
- Provide financial information and services to financial managers.
- Identify areas for improvement, make recommendations to the Project Accountant Manager, and follow up on decisions.
- Provide back-up services to other Financial Officers.
- Advise Assistant Director regarding financial management issues with respect to the activity of research funds.
- Perform other tasks related to the management of research as assigned by the Assistant Director.
- Calculate interest charges to accounts in deficit and Global payment Interest.
- Diploma of College Studies (3-year technical program), preferably in Finance or Accountancy, or in a field related to the primary responsibilities, and two to four years of experience in processing financial transactions, with at least one year of experience undertaking accounting functions for capital budgeting, fiduciary and agency projects.
- Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken English in order to communicate with internal and external bodies and basic knowledge (Level 3) of written English in order to prepare journal entries. Basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French in order to communicate with the general public and written French an asset.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Excel (to do mathematical and financial calculations), of Access (to join tables and run complex queries) and of Word (to format reports and input tables into documents).
- Knowledge of fund accounting as well as Financial Information, Human Resources Information, and Endowment Management systems is highly desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Focus on accuracy and attention to details.
- Very good interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work with minimal supervision, autonomously, and as part of a team.
- Proven dedication to customer service.
$31.18 - $37.54 per hour
