REGULATORY COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST (P5806)

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research Funds, the incumbent is the institutional approver in the department of Research Funds. He/she ensures compliance and eligibility of financial transactions and imposes the latest rules and regulations required by the funding agencies to the research community.
- Provide compliance approval on research grants/contracts on behalf of the institution to the research community.
- Act as key liaison on compliance questions to funding agencies on behalf of the institution.
- Recommend areas or changes in policies or procedures to improve compliant research transactions in order to adhere to research guidelines.
- Verify and approve all Notice of Awards for internal research funding and all Notice of Changes. This involves verifying the documentation, ensuring that all the supporting documentation for the grant is complete and identifying any potential risks.
- Approve all journal entries under $25,000. This involves the validation and the accuracy of the transaction and verifying if the transaction is in compliance with all policies (internal and external).
- Act as a primary resource person for Customer service officers.
- Create and maintain updated documents for major funding agencies eligibility requirements to disseminate to the research community.
- Develop or improve reports to assess risk on compliance review.
- Manage the Indirect Costs funds for faculty & other sectors (UIC).
- Offer training to the research community on up to date compliance information issued from external funding agencies.
- Work with the Assistant Director to develop new policies to support external guidelines.
- Act as key liaison during external funding agencies audits and implement recommendations as per audit results.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, two to four years of relevant work experience.
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA).
- Experience handling research funds both pre and post awards, an asset.
- Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English and good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French in order to participate effectively in discussions involving the rapid exchange of ideas. Basic knowledge (Level 3) of written French in order to write short factual texts.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Access and Excel (in order to use mathematical and financial functions). Basic knowledge of Word in order to create and format documents. Experience using financial information systems.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and foster a positive teamwork environment.
- Strong customer service, decision-making, interpersonal, leadership, organizational planning and problem solving skills.
$72,783.89 - $ 86,940.11 per annum
