This posting represents a five (5) year full-time contract position.


Reporting to the Director, Campus Wellness and Support Services, the incumbent provides a leadership role on university issues related to students with disabilities. He/she analyzes policies and student cases in order to recommend solutions.

Primary responsibilities

  • Work closely with CWSS Leadership Team, government agencies, Concordia departments, and specialized services in the Montreal community to coordinate academic accommodations and related supports for students with disabilities.
  • Lead a team of multi-disciplinary professionals within Access Center for Students with Disabilities (ACSD); responsible for hiring, orientation/training, assignation of work and performance appraisal.
  • Oversees all ACSD processes to ensure conformity with government expectations and oversees budget reconciliations for government funded services; prepares reports, proposals, and funding requests to government and other external agencies for programs.
  • Oversee the appropriateness of ACSD accommodations to meet the requirements and intent of QC legislation, Concordia’s policies relating to students with disabilities, and best practice in the field of academic accommodations.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of best practice guidelines for accommodations for students with disabilities with due consideration for how they may influence exams and assignments.
  • Coordinate and oversee services dedicated to integration of students with disabilities into academic life; work with the Student Success Centre and Faculty to develop referral processes, training materials on the needs of students with disabilities, and accommodated exams.
  • Collaborate with faculty and the Centre for Teaching and Learning to introduce and champion the development of universal design for learning principles and teaching practices to Concordia’s classroom environments.
  • Work with partners in CWSS and health agencies to develop programs to help students manage their disabilities, and develop pathways or programing to increase access to LD and ADHD testing.
  • Work with university partners such as Enrolment Services, Co-Op and Career and Planning Services to develop programing for students as they enter and leave university.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator, Administrative Services to enhance and monitor ACSD operation; evaluate service performance and student satisfaction.
  • Respond to the concerns of faculty, staff, students, family members, university lawyers, and the Office of Rights and Responsibilities on student issues, and is available for consultations with members of the university community for an inclusive Concordia.
  • Provide advising support in the event of staffing shortages at the discretion of the Director.
  • Represents ACSD and/or CWSS on internal and inter-university committees such as AQICESH


  • Master’s degree in fields related to the provision of services for individuals with learning, sensory, physical and psychiatric disabilities with four to seven years related work experience ideally in a post-secondary environment and at least three years in a supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated awareness of the functional implications of common disabilities, broadly defined to include learning, sensory, physical, and psychiatric disabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex cases, including co-morbidities, or where disability intersects with social determinants of health such as income, race, and gender.
  • Experienced in developing institutional policies and protocols
  • Awareness of the dialogues in communities with lived experience, research, industry, and Quebec and Canada Human Rights Courts as they relate to topics of accessibility and disability, and how they may influence the work of the ACSD
  • Charismatic and diplomatic, skilled in stakeholder management and change management, and able to encourage constructive discourse and build consensus. He or she can lead through influence, build fruitful relationships with internal departments, faculties, and community organizations
  • Strong planning, organizing, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Able to multi-task, manage competing projects to deadline and budget, and work under pressure.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English in order to communicate effectively and to draft correspondence, documentation, and reports; good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French.
  • Basic knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong budgeting and financial planning skills to draft administrative budgets and conduct reconciliations for government funded ACSD initiatives
  • Proven team management skills and an ability to foster a positive, productive, and cohesive team environment.
  • Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.
  • Approachable (is sensitive and patient with others) and able to maintain composure (is a calming influence) during critical events.


$95,878.00 - $111,201.00 per annum
