INDIGENOUS CURRICULUM AND PEDAGOGY ADVISOR (C1819)

This is a three (3) year contract position.
Reporting to the Director, Decolonizing Curriculum and Pedagogy, the Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing programs and initiatives to advance Concordia’s priority to include Indigenous perspectives and knowledge in curricula and teaching practices.
- Organize and conduct consultations on the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives and knowledge systems in course content and the decolonization of pedagogical practices through individual and group sessions.
- Develop and deliver faculty workshops and training sessions; facilitate program/curricular consultations.
- Work with faculty members to identify and accompany as necessary Elders, knowledge keepers and community representatives in the classroom; work in close collaboration with the Indigenous Directions Leadership Council.
- Manage relationships with and prepare compensation for Elders and knowledge keepers.
- Deliver anti-colonial training for Indigenous and non-Indigenous faculty.
- Liaise with other CTL Curriculum Developers to develop online content and programming as related to Indigenous knowledge, practices and methodologies, as needed; liaise with CTL staff on inclusive teaching pedagogies, anti-colonial and decolonization pedagogies and Indigenous approaches to education.
- Liaise with Indigenous faculty, staff members and students to continuously receive feedback on classroom experiences and emerging priorities in decolonization and Indigenization; liaise with other Units (e.g., University Curriculum Administrator, Manager, Academic Programs and Development, Lifelong Learning team) as needed in order to advance both undergraduate and graduate curriculum projects.
- Build repository of resources for faculty and staff.
- Help Director assess effectiveness of activities and initiatives and leverage data to drive strategic planning.
- Prepare briefing notes, proposals and reports for Director and/or the Office of the Provost.
- Participate in professional development to support both personal growth and curriculum development.
- Assist unit curriculum representative in the preparing documentation for new and revised programs and course proposals.
- Prepare documentation, as needed, to capitalize on consultations, funding opportunities, or other strategic initiatives related to Indigenous curriculum development.
- Perform other duties as required in support of the initiative.
- Master’s Degree in a field relevant to the primary responsibilities and four to seven years related experience with preferred two years of experience in Indigenous curriculum development and Indigenous pedagogical methods.
- Previous experience in developing curriculum and public education materials; familiarity with issues pertaining to copyright regulations in curriculum.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, collectives and organizations; knowledge of the university environment; demonstrated expertise in Indigenous values, ethics, protocols and knowledge systems with strong ties to the Indigenous community.
- Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English and good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written French order to communicate and work in both official languages.
- Capacity to engage members of diverse communities and skilled in a variety of consultation techniques, protocols and strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to create higher education curriculum that centers Indigenous knowledge and reflects Indigenous pedagogies.
- Experience in planning, preparing and delivering training for faculty in higher education and obtaining feedback.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision; ability to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and stakeholders.
- Strong research and analysis skills using various methods including databases, internet, survey/evaluation tools, library and university reference materials.
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, organizational, communication, and team-building skills.
- Superior ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and discretion; strong organization, prioritization skills and ability to manage workload.
$80,879 - $96,597 per annum
