As Concordia enters a year-long consultation phase to build a teaching and learning strategy, we seek a dynamic, collaborative and mission-driven leader to position the Centre for Teaching and Learning as a core resource for pedagogical support and innovation. Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Innovation in Teaching and Learning (VPITL), the Director will assume a critical leadership role at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, (CTL), guiding the development of cutting-edge programming and services in the promotion of teaching excellence and innovation, including pedagogical development, academic program development, and supporting the scholarship of teaching and learning. With oversight of the daily operation of the Centre, the Director will also serve on University committees, provide strategic advice to the VPITL, and build relationships with senior leadership, faculty members and other academic and student-supporting units.
- Strategize, Plan and Implement
- Develop a strategic vision and plan for the Centre for Teaching and Learning as a vital unit for the University community and promote the strategy inside and outside of the University.
- Work closely with the VPITL to implement the University Teaching and Learning strategic plan, advising on evidence-based practices for its implementation.
- Oversee the design, implementation and evaluation of Centre for Teaching and Learning educational and faculty development programs based on needs within the community and evidence-based practices; develop appropriate metrics to measure outcomes of programming and continuously assess and adjust programming in order to improve them.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of Centre for Teaching and Learning events and activities, such as one-on-one consultations, workshops, lectures, seminars, orientation activities for faculty members and Teaching Assistants.
- Lead the CTL in assessing and implementing educational technologies in support of excellence in teaching and learning; work closely with relevant committees and Units to ensure Concordia’s IT infrastructure supports the university’s teaching and learning strategic plan.
- Ensure the successful implementation of the University’s course evaluation system as outlined in the relevant collective agreements.
- Oversee, promote, and provide leadership for the Lab for Innovation in the Teaching & Learning (LITL), including its staff.
- Build Relationships
- Collaborate with the Director, Decolonizing Curriculum and Pedagogy on initiatives to support Indigenous pedagogies and decolonization of the curriculum.
- Regularly consult with the University community to identify issues of concern about teaching and learning and develop responsive programs.
- Collaborate with faculty and administrators to research, assess and disseminate the impact of initiatives on student learning outcomes and assist with grant applications; actively promote the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning, including developing programming within the CTL for its promotion and adoption.
- Identify and cultivate potential candidates for teaching awards at the University, disciplinary, and national levels.
- In collaboration with the appropriate Associate Deans, develop programming to support the development of faculty leadership in teaching and learning, mechanisms for the recognition and growth of excellence in teaching, including programming within the CTL.
- Manage the CTL’s annual budget and develop the three-year budget as required.
- Oversee CTL Managers in the appropriate management of and use of CTL personnel, including respecting any relevant Collective Agreements; where needed, participate in the hiring, monitoring and evaluation of unit personnel. Ensure excellent service delivery in the CTL.
- Represent the Centre for Teaching and Learning on University committees and other relevant working groups.

- Stay abreast of, promote and contribute to (where appropriate) evidence-based practices within educational development, scholarship on teaching and learning and other relevant research fields.
- PhD with at least seven (7) years of relevant experience of which a minimum of three (3) years of university teaching experience and at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- Previous experience in leading a teaching and learning unit in a university-level institution, including building and continuously measuring outcomes of programming within the unit for a minimum of three (3) years.
- Demonstrated excellence in working collaboratively across various sectors within a university setting, including Senior leadership, faculty members and graduate students in order to achieve the overall objectives of the University and Faculties with respect to teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, leading evidence-based programs to support student learning in a university context.
- Proven leadership skills in empowering, managing and supporting a teaching and learning team in delivering excellent programming that meets set objectives.
- Strong change management skills that support and enable teams through process, program and structural changes as they arise.
- Strategic awareness of higher education and a sound understanding of national and international trends and innovations in learning and teaching, awareness of the funding environment and current and emerging government policies.
- Strong analytic skills, including in collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data from programming, learner analytics from a variety of data sources, and measuring student outcomes and teacher effectiveness.
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English in order to express ideas effectively and to communicate clearly in complex situations. Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written French to communicate in situations.
- Excellent strategic planning, organizing, decision-making and problem-solving skills; ability to effectively manage competing and demanding objectives and priorities.
- Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment.
$123,841 - $143,642 per annum
